If you live in Nigeria, and want to browse the Internet from the comfort of your home or office, rather than scrambling for a seat in cybercafé, then this information is for you. This is especially important if you are doing business online. Public cyber café post security risk to your privacy and business. So it is highly recommended to have your own online connectivity. To do this you do not need so much money. Unlike in cybercafé where you will need to install gigantic equipments like mast or visat.

 Now you can browse the Internet with as little as NGR 500 (Yes 500 Naira) on MTN line for 24 hours. That is a whole day. Compare this to the amount you spend regularly in cybercafé. Most cybercafés in Lagos charges between NGR150 and NGR200 per hour. Some charges more than that. So NGR500 may on the average give you 3hours or less in a public cybercafé.

 NECESSARY STEPS

 Have your own PC (Laptop or desktop). If you don’t have money for a brand new one, you can buy a fairly used one that is in good working condition.

1. Get a Nokia PC suite software
2. Get a mobile phone with GPRS and Bluetooth facilities. Preferably a Nokia phone.
3. Get a USB data cable.
4. Install the PC suite software into your computer
5. Load your MTN sim card with NGR500 recharge card.
6. Connect your data cable to the USB port on your pc and the smaller one to the phone USB port.
7. Configure your MTN sim. How?

 With your phone loaded with NGR500 recharge card, send text message (sms) 103 to 131. Wait for confirmation message from MTN before you start browsing, this will allow you to browse for 24hours uninterrupted. The confirmation message will look like this: “Welcome to 50MB 1-Day data plan, Expires: 09.6.2009 01:56. Text 2 to 131 to check balance. 15kobo per KB applies after 50MB, outside bundle, or after expiry.”

• Load NGR2, 500 recharge card into your phone and send message 102 to 131. Wait for confirmation from MTN before you start browsing. This will allow you to browse between 10pm to 5am for one month.
• Load NGR10, 000 recharge card into your phone and send message 101 to 131. Wait for confirmation from MTN before you start browsing. This will allow you to browse for 24hours for one month.

 TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET

 STEP 1. Double Click on PC Suite icon on your desktop. This will load the PC Suite dialog box.

  Step 2. Click the connect to the Internet icon

 Step 3. Configure (click on this icon to choose your network i.e. MTN)If you are successful, you will see connected in the box

Connect (click on this to connect to the net)

Step 4.  Double click on Internet Explorer icon and browse.
